SEGREGATION AND DISCRIMINATION

In-Depth Page

Summary

*Segregation- he act or practice of seperating people by skin color or race.

*Descrimination- treatment or consideration of, or making a distinction in favor of or against, a person or thing based on the group, class, or category to which that person or thing belongs rather than on individual merit: racial and religious intolerance and discrimination.

*
The Jim Crow laws made it very difficult for different races to live normally. It wasn't only against blacks, it was agaisnt many different races even whites that didnt promote or believe in the racism. Black were given the right to vote but were kept from it by poll taxes (which they could not afford) and literacy test (which most were not able to pass due to education). It was hard for things to change in america because southern democrats involved in goverment would bring up more southerners thought that segregation was in best interest

Why Should We Care??

Racism is not a good thing. We should care because it could be a world crisis if it happens again. Its not right to harm or kill people because of their skin color. I don't feel like racism has completely ended. People shouldn't treat each other differently because of the color of their skin. We should care because it is unfair to segregate people by their skin color. Treating them poorly and making it hard for them to to do everyday things.
